Sustainability of the library

The building materials are of brick and concrete construction and is designed to the new codes of sustainability initiated by the Danish Government in order to comply with the Kyoto Agreement.
This meant reducing energy consumption by half of that of other libraries in the country.
This involved implementing both passive and active systems, for example the use of computer driven adjustable natural ventilation systems as opposed to mechanical ventilation, naturally ventilated cavity brick construction with increased insulation, and the use of locally produced materials only, to avoid large transportation costs, as well as orientating the building to capture best possible sunlight and breezes.

Construction of the building was completed in December 2007, and the library was featured in Concrete Australia Magazine December issue 2007.
